Your child comes to you in the middle of the night with a cough and slight fever. Before the rise of Corona virus you wouldn’t have given it much thought. It’s nothing more than a cold, or perhaps slight flu symptoms, you’re thinking. But now-a-days you can’t be too sure.
Although the common cold, the flu, and Covid-19 all have similar symptoms, we just can’t leave it to chance waiting for these symptoms to change for the better.
Here are a few symptoms for each ailment you might want to keep a close eye on.
The common cold:
- runny or stuffy nose
- sore throat
- low-grade fever
- cough
These symptoms gradually occur and your child usually will have enough energy to perform daily activities.
The flu:
- crankiness
- exhausted
- fever
- chills
- body ache
- headache
- cough
The flu symptoms usually strikes suddenly. Your child may seem fine one minute and the next they’re wiped out as if they’ve been hit by a meteor.
Covid-19:
- fever
- dry cough
- headache (sometimes only shows this symptom)
- runny nose (sometimes only shows this symptom)
- nausea and diarrhea (with absolutely no respiratory symptom)
- lose sense of taste and smell (these are spot on symptoms of Covid-19)
No matter what symptoms your child may suffer, the best thing to do is contact your child’s pediatrician for professional advise.
